Anlan Zhang

I am a Research Scientist/Engineer at Adobe Research. I received Ph.D. in Computer Engineering in the Ming Hsieh Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at University of Southern California (USC), where I was advised by Prof. Feng Qian. Prior to USC, I spent the first four years of my Ph.D. at University of Minnesota - Twin Cities (UMN) and received a M.S. degree in Computer Science. I got my B.E. degree from Beihang University (BUAA), Beijing in 2019.

I am broadly interested in Multimedia Systems, ML for Systems, Mobile Systems, and Networking. My Ph.D. research focuses on designing and optimizing emerging networked multimedia systems for, including but not limited to, immersive content (360 Video, AR/VR/MR, Volumetric Video) delivery, video conferencing, and image co-editing.

Jul 12, 2025 Paper on practical neural-enhanced low-bitrate video conferencing was accepted at SIGCOMM’25 as a short paper.
Jun 15, 2025 Paper on exponentially weighted instance-aware repeat factor sampling for long-tailed object detection model training led by Taufiq was accepted at IROS’25 as an oral presentation.
May 27, 2025 I joined Adobe Research as a full-time Research Scientist/Engineer.
Mar 10, 2025 I passed my Ph.D. dissertation oral defense at USC.
Mar 02, 2025 Paper on low-latency image live co-editing was accepted at NOSSDAV’25.
Feb 11, 2025 Paper on volumetric streaming enhanced by LUT-based super-resolution led by Chendong was accepted at MLSys’25.
Oct 30, 2024 Our paper “An In-depth Study of Bandwidth Allocation across Media Sources in Video Conferencing” led by Zejun received the Best Student Paper Award (2 out of 4385 submissions) at ACM Multimedia 2024.
Sep 16, 2024 Paper on collaborative vehicular perception led by Ruiyang was accepted at SenSys’24.
Jul 15, 2024 Paper on studying bandwidth allocation across media sources in video conferencing led by Zejun was accepted at MM’24 and was further selected as an Oral presentation (174 / 4385 = 3.97%).
Jun 26, 2024 I was invited to serve on the TPC for the 2nd ACM Workshop on Mobile Immersive Computing, Networking, and Systems (ImmerCom’24), which will be held in conjunction with ACM MobiCom 2024 in Washington, D.C., USA.
